I’m Belinda Nailon, a ceramic artist based in St Kilda, Melbourne.

For me, the wheel is a place of presence. I make to go quiet, and centring the clay becomes a way of centring myself. The process is slow, sensory, and grounded in a kind of quiet attention.

My work emerges from this space: forms that hold something of the moment they were made in. I’m drawn to elemental processes like Raku, which invite unpredictability and a willingness to release control, collaborating with the materials rather than directing them.

Across my practice, this approach takes different forms. Some pieces remain open and exploratory, reflecting ongoing questions around existence, rhythm, and how we are shaped. Others move into everyday use, functional objects that carry the same sense of stillness and presence into daily rituals.

My works are held in private collections across the world, including New York and the UK, and I’m deeply honoured by the ongoing connections my work fosters.

Alongside my studio practice, I teach small, intimate classes, guiding students through both technique and presence. Whether beginning or deepening, clay has a way of meeting you where you are, with laughter, learning, and the occasional beautiful mess.

Each piece, each class, is an invitation to slow down, notice more, and create from the inside out.
