How I Created an App in 6 Days

Using AI to make an AR App

· Clay Code

For a long time I've wanted to create an app to augment my pottery works—
So people could see how a piece might look in their own space
And to give each work a kind of digital soul, allowing it to exist in multiple dimensions—physical and digital.

The idea first took root during Melbourne’s long lockdowns. We were restricted to 5km from home, and everything was closed. I began imagining a different kind of exhibition—one that could happen outdoors, anywhere, anytime.
What if I could create an outdoor exhibition that people could experience anywhere—through their phones while they are out walking?

Back then, I was studying cyber security (a back up plan), the coding in this course further inspired the idea for AR. I spoke to lecturer about what I would need to learn and they said, “You’re basically too old to learn this now.”
But they couldn’t see what was coming.

Three years later, I returned to that original idea—this time with tools that didn’t exist back then. Over six focused days, using Base44 and the power of AI, I built the first version of my app.

I began by outlining the user experience—sending message-style prompts that described the kind of interaction I wanted. From there, I tested it. I played with the app, observed what worked and what didn’t, and made changes—again and again.

In the end, I used around 200 iterative requests to refine and simplify the experience. Every step felt like a conversation with possibility. The result is a working app where others can now view my pottery pieces in their own environments.

This process has allowed me to create something I couldn’t have done before.
Is that a good thing? I’m not entirely sure, but I now have something I believe could help me share my work in meaningful ways.

What started as an idea has formulated into a version I can start with.
I’m excited to see if it works—and whether other artists will find it useful too.
I believe that it opens up a whole new set of creative possibilities.

I'm still working on the App, but I'd love for you to try it out and let me know what your think.

Check out this piece below, I'm yet to do a 3D scan, but you can check it out as a 2D experience.
